ABOUT THE BIRDS Very little is known about the forest-dwelling Moluccan Sparrowhawk. It has been seen chasing parrots, and its long middle toe indicates that birds are its main prey.

Foot structure is also a clue to the feeding habits of the Moluccan Goshawk. Its short, relatively weak toes suggest that lizards and small mammals form the bulk of its diet.

The Fiji Goshawk is the only accipiter in its native islands. A determined hunter, it takes birds, reptiles, rats and insects, and even snatches fish and prawns from shallow water.
